This app will allow you to look up the commodity, application and
exposure environment for treated wood products and find out the required
retention by the AWPA and the CheckMark third party inspection details
on the end tag. In addition the app allows you to look up the Treated
Wood Councils (TWC) life cycle assessments (LCA) comparing treated wood
versus substitutes as published by different peer reviewed journals.
The app also provides information on different WWPI programs, EPA
approved preservatives, fire-retardants, handling and answers frequently
asked questions (FAQ). The app also includes location services for
treated lumber yards.
In effect this app will allow an architect or engineer to look up and
specify the proper AWPA Use Category for a designed application knowing
the exposure and location of the treated wood. The contractor will be
able to look up the Use Category and get quotes from the lumberyard on
specific preservatives that meet the proper retention. The building
official and code inspector will be able to verify the end tags on the
treated lumber or plywood meet the proper standards and show it to the
contractor. This will help the entire building process to streamline
one of the more confusing operations and improve the knowledge about and
use of preserved wood products.
