The Wood Pole Guide app provides critical information needed to properly specify and use treated wood poles. Explore the preservatives used to treat wood poles available in the market today, as well as the AWPA Use Category standards that set the required retention for poles base on their use.

Also featured are Technical Bulletins providing design and engineering information for wood poles, as well as case histories documenting the performance of wood poles. Users can review reports on the service life of wood poles, current lifecycle research and recommendations for protecting wildlife near wood poles.

The Engineering Tools section features an ANSI Dimension Calculator that can determine the circumference 6 ft. from the butt end of the pole, based on the species, length, minimum top circumference and class. The Pole Weight Estimator provides the range of weights for each species, based on the length and class of the pole. In both utilities, users can select the criteria and search for the specific pole desired.

Utilities, engineers and others can utilize the app to make informed decisions on specifying wood poles for their specific need and area. A directory provides contact information for the leading treated pole and cross arm manufacturers in the U.S. and Canada. The app is produced by the North American Wood Pole Council, representing wood pole producers in the West, the South and Canada.
