Voice Activated Stopwatch w/ Email

UPDATE Version 1.1 includes 2 new features. A Start/Stop/Restart mode and full screen time display when phone is rotated to the landscape mode.

NOTE: Not compatible with iPod Touch.

VoiceWatch for the iPhone is a voice active stopwatch. It functions just like a regular stopwatch with several very handy extra features:

* Starting and lap(split) times can be triggered by your voice.
* Start Time is tagged with the month, day, year, and time of day that it occurred
* Starting, ending, and lap times can be emailed from your phone to any valid email address.


Other features include:

* Record up to 10 lap (split) times (that can be included in the email)
* Large Start and Stop buttons
* Adjustments for voice level and speech rate
* Voice activation on/off switch
* Record the exact time of day the start is triggered (MM/DD/YY - HH:MM:SS.s). Included in emailed results.


VoiceWATCH's voice activation feature works on sound level. It does not listen for specific words. It is triggered on the volume level of the sounds it hears. Recognition of specific words would required longer processing times and the completion of the entire word which would result in less accurate triggering. VoiceWATCH triggers as soon as a sound goes over the calibrated trigger level.

Voice Activated Operations Include:

* Start - Starts the stopwatch counter. Stopwatch continues to count until stopped by pressing the manual stop button.\
* Lap Time - Records a lap time in the lap time window. Lap times are the split times from the original beginning start time.


Manual Button Operations Include:

* Start/Stop - Starts and stops stopwatch manually.
* Lap/Split Time - records a lap time in the lap time window. Stopwatch keeps counting.
* Reset - Clears stopwatch and lap times.
* Voice Activated (On/Off) – Turns the voice activation feature on or off
* Calibrate Noise - Adjust the sensitivity for surrounding background noise. This along with the Voice Sensitivity Slider is used to set the “trigger level”.
* Voice Sensitivity – After the Calibrate Noise has been set this slider allows you to tweak the sensitivity.
* Speech Rate - Adjust voice triggering for faster or slower speech.

Because VoiceWatch is activated by any sound over the trigger level is may be falsely triggered in a noisy environment. Adjustment of the background noise and speech rate can eliminate most false triggers.

Instructions:

Prior to use you can calibrate VoiceWATCH for the surrounding background noise and adjust the sensitivity control to suit your own voice.

When the "Voice Activation" feature is turned on VoiceWATCH will start timing when it hears a sound over the trigger level. After initially being triggered VoiceWATCH will record a lap time every time it senses a sound over the trigger level. Buttons on the main screen allow you to stop and reset VoiceWATCH.


Limitations - Speech Rate

There are some limitations caused by the nature of the human voice. Because even single syllable words can have multiple peaks VoiceWATCH is designed to trigger on the initial increase in volume of the first word it hears. It will not detect another peak for approximately 100 - 1000 milliseconds (mS) depending on the setting of the Speech Rate slider. When recording Lap Times the minimum time between these lap times limited by the setting of the Speech Rate slider. Please understand I didn't design or intend for VoiceWATCH to be used for Olympic timing or mission critical events but it may come in handy when you want to time something and keep your eyes on the action.
