A series of videos with voice-over describing the correct first aid procedures and techniques to help your child after an encounter with a snake. We have focused on Australian snakes as a general introduction to snakes. These videos focus on how to help your child or infant, should they suffer from a bite from a snake. Each form of bite is described in detail separately. The videos are designed to either refresh your knowledge or to teach.

Snake bites to children can present problems because the effects of any poisoning are likely to be faster due to the higher ratio if venom to body mass. The main purpose of first aid is to stop the venom spreading away from the bite site and attacking other vital organs of the body. Using the first aid technique ‘pressure-immobilisation’, the venom can be kept in one place thus improving the chances of a bite victim arriving at hospital in good health.

The videos have been developed in conjunction with and supported by the leading first aid and pediatric specialists from around the world including the world famous Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and St. John Ambulance.
