Application Description
The debate about legality of red light cameras is heating up nationwide. At the same time that they are outlawed in some jurisdictions, they are getting installed in other cities and counties. The noble purpose of red light cameras is absolutely to increase traffic safety by deterring the risky behavior of running red lights. On the other hand, everyone knows that revenue is definitely part of the discussion when local governments are making decisions to install red light cameras. The fines for running red light cameras vary across the country. It may cost around $100 in some cities and $500 in other cities.
This application is designed to alert drivers about the red light cameras close by. When you are approaching a cross street with the Red Light Camera installed, the app will announce "Attention, Red Light Camera Ahead" three times so that you can pay attention and slow down. The app will also display an alert window on the screen.
You may view the cameras in your area on the map. However, the map is designed to show the camera locations only and it is not a navigator.
Currently only the red light camera locations for USA and Canada are included. For other countries, you may add the camera locations yourself. The application can still alert you.
How does this application work?
1. After the application is started, it can run in the background. It calculates the distance to the closest camera constantly. Once a camera location is close enough, it will send alert sound.
2. If a camera is not in the list, you may add that location to your local database. The new location will be reported to server in future. If the newly reported location is verified to be accurate,it will be added to the central database.
3. Click the sync button to download the new cameras from the central database. The camera list of the central database are regularly updated from various sources. Users' updates are also important to keep the central database up to date.
What it is not:
1. It is not navigator, so the map will not move while you are driving. It is against the map license to create a navigator.
