This handy utility lets you compare times run by horses at different distances. It is especially valuable for comparing workout times run at different distances.


How it works:
The further a horse runs, the slower its times are. PonyCalc adjusts for the typical change in speed with distance of a thoroughbred horse. The algorithm in PonyCalc assumes that the horse is equally capable of running all distances. It also assumes that the track is the same speed, and that the horse is being asked to perform at the same level.


PonyCalc can account for typical time differences do to running one or two turns. Typically races less than a mile have one turn. Races much longer than a mile have two turns. Races around one mile can have either one or two turns.


When comparing workout times, it is necessary to determine how hard the trainer pushed the horse during the workout. Notes such as "Breezing" can help determine this. Because this and other factors such as weather can affect the time estimates, precise time projections cannot be guaranteed. PonyCalc is supplied for entertainment purposes only.
