One Story is a literary magazine that contains, simply, one story. We believe that short stories are best read alone. They should not be sandwiched in between a review and an exposé on botox, or placed after another work of fiction that is so sad or funny or long that the reader is worn out by the time they turn to it. Because we will publish a writer just one time, each issue will introduce you to a new voice in contemporary short fiction. Consider One Story your story of the month club.

Subscribers are sent One Story approximately every three weeks. So in April, August, AND December, you get two stories, one at the beginning of the month and one at the end. Whenever it comes, this story will be an amazing read.

One Story is published by One Story, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supported by individual contributors and by foundations and corporations including the National Endowment for the Arts, NYSCA, and Amazon.com.

One Story is published approximately every three weeks. The app is a free download that includes one story and a weeklong free trial. After that, auto-renewing subscriptions are $1.99 for a month or $15.99 for a year.
