Continuous text charts are designed to simulate everyday near vision tasks for patients, such as reading the newspaper, by using actual sentences. These sentences are calibrated to have a specific number of letters and spaces to create an equal test and consist of precisely scaled fonts according to three international scale formats J (US), N (British) and M unit. By testing with continuous text, optometrists can establish a basis for prescriptions for near corrective lenses.
