Do you want to show your friends how much cooler your iPhone is than their 'Droid? iStalkr can do it. iStalkr is a magic trick that will convince your friends that you can find them wherever they are. Great for April Fool's Day or anytime.

Tell a friend that you can find the location of their phone on a map. Fire up iStalkr, wait for the "uplink status" light to turn green, select their name from your Contacts, click on their phone number and watch as iStalkr shows a map centered right where you (and they) are standing! After the initial shock wears off, your friend will guess that iStalker simply draws a map of where you are. To prove this isn't true, you select someone else from your Contacts list who is no with you. iStalker draws a map showing their home. Or work. Or any place you plan in advance.

Here's how it works: When you select a mobile phone number from your Contacts, iStalkr will do one of three things; it will either draw a map centered on your current location, or a map centered on the Contact's address, or display an error message saying that the phone could not be located. iStalkr decides what to do based on a little trick you can learn easily. With even a small amount of practice, the sleight-of-hand is undetectable.

The trick to iStalkr is in how you press the "Stalk!" button after selecting a Contact. Press down in the left third of the button and iStalkr will draw a map centered on a Contact's Home address. If there is no Home address, iStalkr will use any address it finds. Press down in the center third of the button and iStalkr will draw a map of the current location. Press down in the right third of the button and iStalkr will display an error message that the phone could not be located.

The "uplink status" light is your indication that your iPhone knows its position accurately enough to draw a map of the current location. iStalkr will find your location using GPS or data services, whatever is available. When the indicator light is red, your iPhone is still trying to figure out where it is and iStalkr map drawing is disabled.

In order to be able to show a map of a Contact's address, iStalkr relies on a well-formed address in the Contact information.
