'Fire in the refinery' is a novel by Alexander Shirvanzade written in March 1883 and published in 'Mshak' daily. It is considered to be the first literary work of Shirvanzade.
The novel is a story based on the reminiscences of the author about the life in Baku and the morals of the oil production workers. While living in Baku Shirvanzade worked in an office of an oil producing company and saw the struggle between the owners of the mines for wealth, and the life of miners who worked in cold and dark mines to provide their families.
It's worthwhile to note that Shirvanzade tried to write a novel on this topic, but finishing the first attempt he found it unsuccessful leaving a part of it in the final novel 'Fire in refinery'.

In many other future works Shirvanzade touched upon the Baku topic from the perspective of defending the miners' social rights and needs.
