Application Description
"GDN - a crime mapping dossier" is a data journalism project dealing with crime news in the urban environment. Since 2010, it has been focusing on how the general perception of a city's neighbourhood or local community may be affected by the media narrative.
This app, officially launched during the Wired Next Fest held in Milan in May 2013, is an outstanding collection of innovative visualizations, maps and insights about one year's crime and offenses reported in the first Italian metropolis.
The publication was made in collaboration with the award-winner Politecnico di Milano's DensityDesign research lab as well as with authoritative Italian criminologists.
The acronym GDN comes from the Italian "Il Giro della nera", roughly translated as "A crime news tour
