Closer Reader takes advantage of the close reading strategy where the reader reads and rereads a passage to acquire an in-depth exploration of the passage in order to comprehend its whole meaning while also dissecting the separate elements that make up the whole.
Closer Reader is the app every teacher needs for students to increase literacy in every subject. Made by teachers for teachers and students, Closer Reader gives its users the opportunity to utilize proven literacy strategies that work with any reading material the teacher can copy and paste. It’s that simple!

Choose any usable text in any subject at any grade and any level. Copy and paste the text into the Closer Reader app. Use the intuitive format to create instructions for highlighting the elements studied in class. Then create the next level of questions in the Review section. These questions should delve deeper into the Depth of Knowledge forcing the students to review and analyze the highlighted sections to answer the Review questions.

At the end, the student synthesizes his or her work into a written response that culminates the entire close reading into a summative proof of learning.

The student then enters his or her email and password and sends the finished text to the assigned teacher providing a paperless proof of the students writing in progress for grading and portfolios.
