Located in Western Australia, the Bibbulmun Track is one of the world's longest bush walks stretching from Kalamunda in the Perth hills to Albany on the south west coast.

If you enjoy bush walking and the great Australian outdoors, you'll love the Bibbulmun Track. One of my ambitions is to walk the entire 967 kilometre length of the track and become a celebrated End-to-Ender. It takes a fair bit of planning to do this, and even to cover shorter distances.

I've written this App to assist you to plan your own trip, End to End or shorter!

The Map screen shows all the camp sites as well as the towns where you can restock supplies, stay in a "bed and breakfast", and have a rest. You can select whether you want Google's standard, satellite and hybrid view. The map pin call out lists the latitude and longitude co-ordinates if you want to use a GPS to assist in navigation. As always, you can save the screen and email it to whoever you want if you want a hard copy.

The Distance Calc is great fun. Use the two pickers to select any two locations on the track and it will automatically return the distance in kilometres. Touch the "Average Speed" sign post and enter your estimated kilometres per day, and the App will let you know how many days it will take (and how much supplies you'll need to carry).

There are two "log books" which you can use to update your achievements - you can use this as the basis for completing your End-to-End application.

This App does not replace the maps and handbooks that you can buy from the Bibbulman Track Foundation or a professional GPS and/or a compass. It's a planning tool only - please do not rely on this App for navigation on the Track.

Even if you don't have any ambition to walk the track, this is still a fun App - I enjoyed keying in all the camp sites and towns and plotting my virtual End-to-End journey. Using Google's satellite view, you can zoom in to see if you can find the hut! Even using the distance calculator and doing "what if's" was a hoot. For example, if I wanted to go from Pemberton to Albany, that would be 403.40 kilometres. What if I took it easy and only covered an average of 30 kilometres a day? That would take me about 13.5 days without a break. So what would happen if I pushed it and walked 50 kilometres a day? That would cut it down to about 8 days!

To use the Distance Calc do as follows:

1. Tap the number inside the red circle on the "Average Speed" sign and enter in your average speed per day.

2. Use the pickers to select your locations. There are two pickers - one from Kalamunda going South, and one for Albany, going North.

3. If it seems that it has't calculated or updated a calculation, move a picker to a location and back again - this happens because moving a picker fires the calculation.

There are two Log Books for you to use:

N-S shows sections from Kalamunda to Albany
S-N shows sections from Albany to Kalamunda

Pick the appropriate log book and enter the dates you covered the section. To save the entry, please press the enter key after typing in the date.

There's also a web view which displays the weather information for the towns on the track.

Again, I can't stress enough that this is a planning tool only and should only be used to "dream and scheme". While the information is fairly accurate, please ensure you make use of the Bibbulmun Track Foundation as well as their information materials and advice.

I hope you enjoy the App and also the Bibbulmun Track experience!
