Alphabet Pictures and Sounds is an educational app for young children that are beginning to learn the basic sounds of the English alphabet. Pictures are included to help strengthen the relationship between the word the child hears and the picture they see.

Playing off the idea of flash cards, children can easily swipe through each letter of the alphabet and a series of corresponding pictures. Users interact with the digital flash cards by tapping on the audio and arrow icons to hear the sounds and to see the pictures. By listening to the sounds of words and looking at the corresponding pictures, children will be able to strengthen their ability to make associations between pictures and words.

As a graphic design educator and a father of young children that are proficient in using an iPad, I found a need to provide more meaningful and engaging experiences on these mobile devices. With inspiration from my children I have embarked on this digital journey. Alphabet Pictures and Sounds is the second iPad app I have developed to provide children and parents supplemental learning opportunities.
