The ability to quickly recognize facial expressions is the key to successful communication and appropriate reaction in social situations, and it can be trained.
"You are happy" is such a training tool tailored to children. It is based on a standard method, where faces that feature 1 of the 6 expressions of emotions regarded as the "universal emotions" are presented to the viewer. The viewer is then forced to react by pressing a button. This response is collected for later feedback. Different presentation modes are available and selection of faces and presentation sequence are randomized, allowing for high variability/ re-use. Part of the app is a storybook explaining emotions in a fun way.
