Words For Yogis teaches children simple Mandarin Chinese words and phrases through 2-4 minute yoga videos and stories. Our app is designed to help children master the language through movement, which has been proven to be a highly effective way for young minds to learn. Launched by Kids Yoga Speak, we are educators, yogis and Mandarin speakers and are passionate about the incredible benefits of learning a non-native language. We designed the content in the app with the help of our two young children Will and Eden, who help us write the yoga stories and teach the yoga. Though our target audience is children ages 10 and under, our app strives to engage adults as well.

Our yoga stories have been tested by numerous child care providers, yoga practitioners and parents who have reported their children love the stories, the movements and the antics of Will and Eden. Best of all, they report their children learn the Mandarin Chinese words and often ask to come back for more. Our videos feature Will and/or Eden in outdoor locations where things do not always go according to plan. We promise you will see goofiness that will keep you and your kids giggling while learning.

“Integrating language with movement makes the practice of yoga whole by combining right and left brain activities. Children are the greatest imitators and Word For Yogis is something every child should imitate. The children at our learning center love it and want to come back for more; we think that’s the greatest testament.”
--Jennifer, Director of A Bientot & Kid Spot Childcare Center

“Words For Yogis is an innovative and fun way to learn the Chinese language. You can’t help but remember the words as you listen to the story and participate in the yoga. Great idea, keep up the good work!”
– Ann, health professional & mom

Videos: Our 2-4 minute videos highlight short stories written with the help of Will and Eden. We take kids through a yoga routine while telling the story and incorporating a new Mandarin Chinese word in the process. The goal is for children to hear the new word and associate it with a specific yoga pose. This learning style is called “total physical response” and it has been shown to be a powerful way for children to learn a new language.

Blog: Short and usually humorous, our blogs are designed to help users understand they are not alone in their journey parenting young children!

Tips: Our tips encompass wisdom learned in parenting children 10 and under. We love to hear from fans and many of our tips come from YOU! Our Share a Tip button allows you to participate in our growing community of parents, yogis and all those excited about teaching children Mandarin Chinese.
