WindSock's objective is to calculate and display the wind components that you’ll be encountering during your next takeoff and landing.
As a pilot, I understand that WindSock needs to be quick and easy to use.
That’s why I designed WindSock for rapid one handed use, with visual as well as digital feedback.
When you are number one for takeoff and the wind just shifted, it's not the time to be messing around with dozens of complicated features, and nonintuitive user interfaces.
Is the new crosswind over the aircraft limits? Should you request a runway change? You need the answer, now!
My goal was to produce an iPhone App that I would be happy to use, and I am confident you will enjoy it just as much as I.
Just select the runway and spin the wind, you’ll instantly know if you are good to go. WindSock remembers the values you entered, so if the wind changes, you make only the necessary changes.
Because different aircraft have different crosswind and tailwind limits, I’ve made it easy to change the numbers that will trigger the red warnings, just press the button on the top right of the screen, choose "Max Settings" and pick your new limits.
3D traffic patterns, including 45° pattern entries, are immediately available with a touch of the main screen.
To help you learn where on the screen to tap, we have implemented an initial training session that has to be completed before WindSock is unlocked. Not to worry, in true WindSock style, training is as easy as touching an icon.
Additional options are available on the “Setting” screen through the action button (top right).
These options include access to the “Max Settings” screen, ability to inhibit the display of the traffic patterns, an “About” section, and a link WindSock website right on your device (data connectivity required).
That’s all there is to it! Fast, easy, useful. That’s what WindSock is all about.
