In WHACK-A-CELL, the cells where a number can't go are shaded, so you play by tapping the white cells with only one in a square, a row, or column. If you can't find one, change a number, and look at it. The object of the game is to see how quickly (and accurately) you can complete the grid.

Another way to learn is to use the "What's up - Hint - More" button sequence. Tapping "What's up" shows a list of techniques that the game's search engine has found, and changes into the "Hint" button. Tapping it will show a move that can be made on the grid. It changes itself into the "More" button. Repeatedly tapping it will sequence through one example of each type of move found.
