The Water Quality app may be used for education or scientific research purposes.

Users of all ages can learn about water quality parameters such as Dissolved Oxygen, E. coli, pH, Nutrients, Turbidity and much more. Students can gather data about their field study site in a site profile. The Benthic Macroinvertebrates section acts as a field guide of all of the major taxa used to calculate pollution tolerance indexes. Pictures, sketches and descriptions for identification are included for twenty-two macroinvertebrates.

Scientists and citizen science groups can use the Water Quality app to learn about water quality parameters and to collect chemical and biological data from their study sites. Data are organized in reports and can be printed or submitted to the River on the Web database.
