The app brings new features to this best selling cruising guide:

• Quickly search by location by using the Browse feature, which is formatted in the same manner as the print guide but uses Areas (Waggoner Guide chapters), Subareas and Destinations. Or use the Search button to search alphabetically.

• Waggoner Maps from the print guide are found by clicking on the green “Waggoner Maps” buttons on Subarea or Destination pages. Tap on the circle numbers to get a list of the featured Destinations in the Area.

• We have incorporated new interactive Maps that are accessible via the Tab Bar Map button at the bottom of the iPad. This Map allows you to Show Pins for Subareas and Destinations listed in the app, filter for services at a specific destination or see a list of nearby locations for a destination.

When you select “Show Pins,” the app will display all of the pins that are available within the visible map area. If you are zoomed out far enough so that you are viewing a large area, the amount of pins on the map may affect map performance when zooming and panning. You can improve map performance by selecting “Hide Pins” when zooming and panning, then turn the pins on again when you are close to where you want to be. Also note that if you are zoomed in really tight, you may not see any pins at all because there may not be any in the visible area. When you tap a pin, the name for that location will pop up, if you tap it twice, you will be taken to the Waggoner Guide text for that destination.

• The information from the Waggoner Guide has been reformatted to be compatible with navigating in an app environment. Many of the listings in the print guide were based on water passage names and not everyone is as familiar with those as they are with city names, island names and the names of major bays. If a Subarea or Destination is a bay or major city along a coastal mainland, that is used and the major Destination of that Subarea is in parentheses, with additional Destinations in that Subarea listed on the left side of that Subarea page. The Pacific Northwest has many islands and those are also Subareas, again with Destinations on a list on the left side of those Subarea pages. We have tried to keep most of the information in the same sequence as the print guide, but some areas will vary significantly.

• The content from the front of the guide, as well as the Green Pages, can now be found via the “Information” Tab Bar button. We have moved some content that appeared at the beginning of a few of the chapters to this section. For example, the information about Weather Planning and Customs for Crossing Dixon Entrance is now in this “Information” section.
