Founded in 1952 at Pan American College as an orchestra of volunteer musicians, the Valley Symphony Orchestra has grown into a fully professional 75-member ensemble with additional important musical groups and activities the 120+ voice, volunteer, community based Valley Symphony Chorale; two youth orchestras, the Youth Symphony and Philharmonic; and our “Success Thru Strings” program that provides Suzuki-based violin instruction to committed elementary students.

Since its beginnings, the VSO has played a leading role in the cultural life of our community. Even today the orchestra utilizes dozens of local musicians- private music instructors, public and private school band and orchestra directors, college music professors, and area professionals - with a resulting impact that resonates far beyond the concert stage. As a Valley-wide artistic asset throughout its proud history, the VSO has performed the length and breadth of the Rio Grande Valley as well as south of the border in Monterrey, Saltillo, Ciudad Victoria. and Reynosa.
