Initially we were frustrated by the lack of Push mail for GMail (including Google Apps) accounts. Yeah, we know you can get it pushed via MobileMe, that's great if you use MobileMe. We also know you can poll every 15 minutes, but that drains the battery and we wanted fast push notifications a-la Blackberry, without having to run a client on your own computer 24/7 or having to forward selected emails to a specific email address.

In short, we wanted it to 'just work'.

As we developed Ultimate Notifier it soon became apparent that there were a number of other killer features, why restrict it to GMail and Google Apps? RSS and Atom feeds, Google Reader, Twitter Searches, Mentions and DM's (we're at @ultimatenotify) and Facebook messages were all things we wanted to be notified about, so we decided to support these features.

Then it dawned on us. What if it worked for POP/IMAP/Hotmail, all of a sudden almost everyone can have push mail! (We're still working on native Exchange support but it'll be online soon and due to Yahoo limitations some Yahoo customers may need to use an alternate configuration)

For power users we even have an API, so you can send your own notifications to your iPhone from your own applications. Use wget or cURL with your monitoring system to receive push notifications of monitoring events.
