Ty Pren (Welsh for 'House of Wood') is located in the village of Trallong on the northern boundary of the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales. The rich local vernacular architecture inspired the concept of a modern ‘longhouse’, a type of traditional home that in Wales dates back to the 13th century. Unlike in its traditional precedents, however, a combination of sophisticated architectural detailing, technically advanced construction techniques and skilled craftsmanship have resulted in a thoroughly modern, high performance, ecologically sustainable, crisply extruded contemporary home. The recipient of a number of design awards, Ty Pren has also been recognised across the UK as an exemplary model for sustainable residential architecture.
