The fact is that passwords are broken; they’re either easy to guess or hard to remember. Even if your password is awesome, your digital security is suspect at best. We need something more.

Enter two-factor authentication. Two-factor is those little cards and fobs with codes that change every few seconds. The only way to have the right code at the right time is to have that device with you, always. The security community has been pushing these things for years, but they are inconvenient, cumbersome, and expensive - so the only people that actually use them are high end financial institutions, savvy corporations, and the ultra-paranoid.

That’s what Toopher fixes. It’s two-factor security on every website without any hassle. So how do we do this?

Just as many cars pop the locks as their owners approach them, we use the location awareness and network connectivity of your phone to do the same thing for online services. That’s it – simple, easy, elegant. Your phone doesn’t even have to leave your pocket. For example, if you typically log in to Gmail from your desktop computer at home, Toopher will learn that and automatically grant the request. Furthermore, if someone tries to log in when you’re not there, you’ll be notified immediately and can prevent the login from happening. And no one will ever be able to log in from a new computer without your explicit permission.
