12 countries. 48 barbers. Barbers from around the world are brought together in this collection of photographs. Interviewed, surveyed and photographed at length, barbers shared their histories, their hardships, their ambitions. They shared their lives. While most were eager to participate, some preferred privacy.

Topics varied from barber to barber. Some talked of economic struggle, while some focused on their futures. Stories of burglaries and vandalism, and of those just happy to work indoors. Most barbers displayed passion, and it was not uncommon to see that most barbers had learned their trade at youth.

Each in their environment, each with their histories, diverse in every way, they are connected by their craft. We present this collection with hopes that the lives and stories of these barbers are translated through these many photographs.
