What is TexLege? - (Besides just a nickname for The Texas Legislature)

It's handy reference guide for visitors, voters, contributors, lobbyists, interest groups, politicians (and their staff), i.e. anyone in, around, or interested in the Texas Capitol and the politics within.

TexLege provides a fully searchable directory of legislators, their district offices, phone numbers, email addresses, web sites, campaign financing details, biographical links, twitter addresses, and Capitol office locations

Exclusive to TexLege – Unlike every other Congressional or state legislative mobile application in existence, TexLege includes a historical partisanship index to evaluate and compare the level of partisanship for individual Texas House Representatives and Senators over time. The roll call vote index originates from my doctoral dissertation and uses dimensional scaling analysis, from hundreds of thousands of record votes taken on the chamber floor over nearly 20 years.

TexLege also includes natively drawn district map overlays in a fully interactive built-in map. Want to know who your representatives are right this second? TexLege can use your geographic location to definitively show the boundaries of the legislative districts and their members. Not good enough? Tap and hold your finger on the map to bring up the appropriate districts. Still not excited? Touch the multi-pin to drop party colored pins for every district in the state.

TexLege has a full directory of committees and their membership appointments, average partisanship of the members, with phone numbers and web links for meeting schedules and bills under consideration.

Also, TexLege provides an interactive, searchable calendar to find and explore upcoming committee meetings. On iOS 4 and later, you can automatically add a meeting to iCal.

Finally, it has pre-installed zoomable/scrollable maps of the complex, the extension wings, and the surrounding area, along with points of interest and a wheelchair accessability guide.

TexLege currently covers the 82nd legislative session, *at no extra charge*. I do not now, nor do I anticipate EVER charging additional fees for updates to TexLege. If you buy it from the App Store in 2011, you'll have a free update coming your way for every subsequent legislative session in Texas. That's how I roll. TexLege is a little pricier on the front end than a few other legislative apps out there, not only due to the unique/advanced features it includes, but also with a lifetime of updates in mind.
