SwissPeaks is a light-weight augmented reality application for the iPhone 3GS, which provides users with information about mountains in sight in Switzerland. It can be used to identify mountains outdoors when hiking, biking, climbing or skiing. Mountains seen through the iPhone camera get labeled with their name, height and the distance from the user. Further information for specific mountains can be requested from the web.

SwissPeaks uses location, digital compass and accelerometer of the iPhone 3GS and allows easy manual correction of horizontal and vertical error. Currently, SwissPeaks works only on the iPhone 3GS. Older iPhone models are not supported. You need to have an iPhone 3GS.

Currently, SwissPeaks only works in Switzerland, where a unique visibility service provided by Ernst Basler + Partner Ltd. shows you only mountains which are actually visible from your current viewpoint.

SwissPeaks has been developed in Switzerland at the chair of Information Management, ETH Zurich in cooperation with Ernst Basler + Partner Ltd.

WorldPeaks is a worldwide version of this application which works worldwide but without the visibility service. WorldPeaks is also available on the AppStore. Please, use WorldPeaks if you are outside of Switzerland.
