This clever little app will conjugate any verb in Swahili.

Whether you are a learner, a native speaker who is a bit rusty, or someone who is travelling in Eastern Africa, this app will come in very handy. A single verb in Swahili has literally thousands of different forms according to the noun class it takes as a subject, the tense and mood, whether it is affirmative or negative, and what sort of object it takes. This can prove rather daunting until you have the hang of this beautiful African language.

Type in the infinitive or dictionary form of the verb, and in the three wheels below, select the subject, tense and object. A toggle button allows you to switch between affirmative and negative forms. As you type or move the wheels, the correct conjugated form will appear on the right.

This app covers regular and irregular verbs, verbs of both Bantu and Arabic origin, monosyllabic verbs as well as the special forms of 'kuwa' (to be) and 'kuwa na' (to have). The non-personal subjects and objects are numbered according to the noun class they belong to, and an example noun is given in each case for easy identification. This app conjugates verbs in all the most most common tenses:

-Present definite (I am living)
-Present indefinite (I live)
-Perfect (I have lived)
-Past (I lived)
-Future (I will live)
-Habitual (I generally live)
-‘Ki’ tense (If I live)
-Present conditional (If I were to live)
-Past conditional (If I were to have lived)
-Imperative (Live!)
-Subjunctive (that I live)

Thank you for considering purchasing this app, and good luck with all your endeavors in learning Swahili!
