Application Description
The first Komen Northwest Louisiana Race for the Cure® was held in 1994, with just a few hundred participants. We have since grown our numbers to over 6,000 women, men and children in 2011. Our Race participants, corporate partners, and hundreds of volunteers have helped bring breast cancer awareness to the attention of Northwest Lousiana. This year marks a momentous 18 years for our Race . This affiliate began with two founders, Patsy Ogletree and Penny Durham and has grown into an amazing organization, now pleased to employ a full time Executive Director, and a part time Mission Coordinator. The Northwest Louisiana Affiliate began our Community Grants program in 1999, and has since granted over two million dollars to organizations in Northwest Louisiana making the most IMPACT in these communities. Our volunteer base has grown to over 300 dedicated volunteers who each have been an integral part of the grassroots growth of this affiliate.
