In the Spring 2013 issue:

With retirement in sight, Father Dennis Dease reflects on two decades of extraordinary change at St. Thomas. He sits down for a wide-ranging interview that addresses his deep commitment to the university’s mission, challenges during his presidency and what role he will play as president emeritus. And many St. Thomas community members offer their thoughts on what makes Father Dease “A Man of Uncommon Decency.”

Success on St. Thomas courts, fields, tracks, pools and arenas has been rather ubiquitous in recent years. But there is one extraordinary team that won its sixth national championship this year and has been nationally ranked since 2004. Let’s just say the St. Thomas Dance Team knows it can dance.

David Dougherty ’65 is the only Tommie (we know of) to become an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. What does it take to receive such a distinction? Well, no one really knows for sure due to the top-secret nomination process. Suffice it to say, it’s a BIG deal. Dougherty has followed an unexpected career path from adventure-seeking college grad to solving waste problems through innovated recycling programs. And now he has a shiny medal from the Queen of England.

Also in this issue: Architect Cass Gilbert builds St. Thomas, "Maestro” Dr. Matthew George offers students a firsthand international music exchange, and Father Dease shares his “Final Thoughts.”
