SMAPP is the filmmaking app to help you push your stories forward. SMAPP was designed by filmmakers, for filmmakers!
Learning this craft can be intimidating, and there are so many tools that we either don't fully understand or don't even know we have available. SMAPP was created to make all of filmmaking more approachable and to empower the filmmaker to tell relevant and meaningful stories, their stories, with more confidence than ever before.
In this updated version of SMAPP, you'll find that it is more practical and useful in the field. We asked ourselves what was missing, and worked hard to make changes that would be a noticeable improvement. With the new version you can take pre-production to the next level by syncing and sharing functionality with your Dropbox, setting timers to keep you on track, and attaching photos to your shot lists.

LENS SELECTION TOOL: Choosing the right lens for your story is no easy task. We often choose our favorites, what we normally use, or what's on our camera. The Lens Selection Tool is designed to let you tell SMAPP about your story and it will suggest effective lenses for you. SMAPP will even suggest a good starting distance from your subject, and a suggested aperture range. All tailored to what you want to say.
SHOT LIST TOOL: A key to a well told story is preparation. Use the shot list to get your ideas down, choose a focal length (wide, medium, or tight), and assign a tool. Keep track of your progress by checking off your shots in the field and you can even share your list with a friend or publish it to your Dropbox for everyone on your team to access. Set timers for specific shots, and even attach photos of what you want the shot to look like — this is immensely helpful in trying to communicate your vision with team members.
PACKING TOOL: Packing gear properly can be time consuming and somewhat mundane. Nobody is drawn to storytelling because of the bags they get to pack. SMAPP is here to help. Create an extensive packing list tailored for your shoot. Assign your gear to a certain bag or to individuals with an easy-to-use labeling system.We've even included a handy progress bar so you can see how far you've packed. The coolest part: publish your packing list to your Dropbox and share it with your team.
TUTORIALS: Let's face it, filmmaking is a daunting art and requires a very wide range of skills. We've put together over 40 tutorials on the most important facets of filmmaking to help you get help where you need it. All tutorials are completely free!
MOVEMENT: Monopods, tripods, sliders, handheld… how do you always know which tool is best for your story? The Movement Tool allows you to make gear selections that always put story first. Input certain characters or scenes in your story, along with some details about your resources (time or space), and the Movement Tool will suggest a way to move your camera that is most relevant to your story.

Here at Stillmotion we are admittedly a quirky, passionate, and tireless group. When we aren’t out shooting, we’ll most often be found hatching new plans to make our stories more relevant or finding ways to help others tell their stories in a more meaningful way. It’s this connection between story and meaning that we all care for deeply and that unites all of the different things we do.
Our journey has taken us from weddings to the sidelines of the Superbowl, and culminated in winning three Emmy's for our work in the feature documentary, A Game of Honor. We value education as much as any of the work we produce,
