Shadow play or shadow puppetry Wayang Kulit is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment with articulated figures to create the illusion of moving images. Wayang is an Indonesian word for theatre (literally "shadow"). When the term is used to refer to kinds of puppet theatre, sometimes the puppet itself is referred to as wayang. Performances of shadow puppet theatre are accompanied by gamelan in Java, and by "gender wayang" in Bali..
Shadow Play is popular in various cultures. At present, more than 20 countries are known to have shadow show troupes.
