The Clinical Excellence Commission Sepsis Adult FIRST DOSE Empirical Intravenous Antibiotic Guideline aims to guide the prescription and timely administration of the FIRST DOSE of intravenous (IV) antibiotics for adult patients who have a diagnosis of sepsis. The guideline is based on the Therapeutic Guidelines: Antibiotic version 14, 2010 Prophylactic, empirical or directed antimicrobial therapy and incorporates best available evidence and the principles of appropriate use of antibiotics.
