Self by AWARE is an aid against domestic violence, brought to you by AWARE - Association of Women for Action and Research - Singapore's leading gender equality advocacy group.

Most women do not complain about domestic violence (verbal and physical) because they have no evidence to prove it. This app, when activated, monitors for a spike in the ambient sound decibel level (for example shouting), and automatically starts recording, saving an audio file in a secret folder. The victim can later use this recording as proof of abuse. The app also has an optional facility of automatically sending an SOS, via SMS, to a nominated person when the sound level rises above a certain point.

Because of its sensitive nature, after opening the app, it will mask itself as a mirror, until a finger is pressed to the screen for 4 seconds, and a passcode is entered.

Additional features include a secret folder for storing photographic evidence, information about the nearest police stations and help centres, and a safety plan to help avoid further abuse.
