'Maruchi' is a one-of-its-kind original theatrical experience whereby the audience’s smartphone device becomes an integral part of the show and its story. During the performance content that runs parallel to the performance will be activated on each device helping to create a larger world for the narrative, and a deeper engagement with the characters’ lives and stories as they progress, and forge a more personal connection between the audience and the stage.
Our first performance is an original story created by Michael Beets and Christy Shapiro titled 'Self' . Our story follows Nataleigh, a 17-year-old girl using 'Social' a (voice activated social network) in what seems to be a normal night of browsing the Internet, communicating with friends, and sharing funny memes.
The audience’s phones will mirror everything Nat is doing on her device, whether it's messages, sending picture, looking at her friends’ social pages, or video chats.
