Finding the right school in New York City can be daunting, to say the least. We all want the best for our children. The reality is that there is immense competition for most private schools. The supply/demand calculus in NYC puts parents in a very weak position. To secure a spot in any private school, much less what might be your top choice, requires a massive effort: scheduling open houses and interviews, keeping tabs on application deadlines and follow up notes, gathering and exploiting every conceivable angle from the obvious to the esoteric (Is your Aunt Betty bridge partners with the Chairman of the Board?). Not to mention simply keeping clear, organized notes about the pros and cons of different schools.
SchoolScope was designed to make all this much easier. Features and capabilities include:
* Look up details on any private school in the City.
* Call, email or browse the web site of any school, directly from the app (phone calls require iPhone).
* Browse or search schools based on name, age range, neighborhood, distance, single sex/coed.
* Integrated Maps to locate schools.
* Organize all the important dates associated with your application. Post them to your personal calendar.
* Organize the various contacts that might relate to your application effort: admissions staff, administrators, parents, alumni, etc. Contact any of them directly from the app. Pull from or push to your personal contact program.
* Record and organize miscellaneous notes. These could be anything. Personal thoughts. Reminders about school features or people met. Anything that will help you evaluate the school and/or navigate the application process.
And since this is all done from the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch you probably keep with you at all times anyway (including during all your school appointments), the process of assembling and harnessing this powerful information will be relatively painless.
