SailingLog is the easiest way to administer your boating logbook on an iPhone or iPad (iPhone-App)! In many Countries Sailors are requested to keep track of their journey in a Log Book for insurance issues.
Until now it was always a burden to do that, but now it is even fun! This APP was developed because no other fulfilled our key requirements.

Prevention of Logbook Manipulation:
We have implemented in SailingLog, that Log-entrees cannot be deleted once they are done. So manipulation is not really possible.

I recommend to print out, sign and date the trip report. You can even put a digital signature on the PDF-document which also covers the electronic guarantee of the correctness of date and signature ....

SailingLog has 3 major levels: Trips, Legs and Logs.

Plan a sailing TRIP with all the facts being crucial:
TRIP DATA ---- covers all relevant trip data

Each day or so, you will enter a new LEG
LEG DATA ---- covers all relevant leg data

And during the sailing you do the LOG entrees
LOG DATA ---- covers all relevant log data
Now in version 1.1 and higher these LOG's can be generated automatically. Distance will be taken from the GPS receiver, Speed will be measured automatically and also Course will be calculated by the phone. All you need to do is SAIL, SAIL, SAIL. Everything else is handled by SailingLog.

Automatic Logbook entrees: SailingLog can be set to create entrees every 5 to 120 min automatically without user interaction

Battery safe mode: GPS can completely turned off so that you are saving battery by simply entering all datas manually, as long as you cannot recharge your phone

Photo-Log: In order to assign your photos from a great trip to the right locations you can do photo-logging now.

Share moments: A specific Logbook entree can be shared with others, in order to tell them where you are, what speed you do etc.

For backup reasons after every LEG you can mail your trip-backup.

That's it. And at the end of the TRIP you mail the logbook to whomever you want.

Report consists of a PDF and a CSV-File.

Best printing result of the PDF can be achieved by cropping the page to the used area and than print it in landscape format.
In order to work with the CSV it is best to import it into MS-Excel

Import CSV in MS-Excel:
The CSV file can be imported into Excel or any other spreadsheet program.
E.g. in Excel 2010 you need to start with a blank sheet using "Data" - "Get External Data" - "From text" and than import the trip report.
When importing, make sure that data source is set to Unicode UTF-8, otherwise the special characters (such as "°"won't be shown correctly!
Separator between columns is "tab"
