Kids play this game as a detective trying to solve the case of the missing eagle. They ask other animals who, what, when, where, and why to learn details about the case. These case details are then captured in the "Detective Notebook," providing a structure for kids to practice informational, narrative, and digital writing. Teachers and parents can also download the writing to revisit, review, and share.

This immersive and media rich experience was created for second grade students, referencing the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Three standards were focused on: RI.2.1, W.2.2, and SL.2.2. The structure of the game was informed by interviews and a focus group with elementary teachers and content experts. Safari Detective is also a fun learning experience for children younger than second grade to play together with an adult.

Safari Detective was researched, illustrated, designed, and developed by Bradley Scott and Kaylee Scott as a final masters project for Michigan State University’s Human Computer Interaction MA program.
