Finding ones passion in life escapes many of us for years. I only touched my passion in the beginning, but have since reunited with it. As a young man getting out of college and then a stint in the military my first employment was with a local major department store in Indianapolis as the asst.buyer for the gourmet food and wine departments. Back then wine came from two major countries France and Italy, America was still in the sacramental wine business and was branching out into the jug wine business. So I got my first glimpse of the business tasting wines that I could barely pronounce. Fortunately for me I had a good mentor. He understood my shortcomings and my strengths and allowed me to gradually grasp the art and education of wines. As my career advanced so did my passion for wine.
Moving to Lakeland, FL, with my wife Sherry,allowed my experience in business and my passion to come together. Tim’s Wine Market arrived at the same time. After meeting with Tim Varan and discussing his business I was able to persuade him to sell me Tim’s Wine Market in Lakeland. Since purchasing Tim’s in 2008 we changed the name to Ric’s due to the persistence of our daughter (Lindsay) and son-in-law (Greg) and the fact that they created our business logo. We recently changed our location to the old Deli Delicacies location. Here we hope to continue to create an environment that is comfortable and fun to learn about wine. To further enhance that experience we have the Enomatic Wine Dispenser. You can receive a 2oz. pour and taste 16 different wines for a minimal cost. Also,on Friday evening from 5–7pm, we offer “Wine Down” where you can taste a couple of wine styles that are new and interesting.
