Do you have the resolve? Do you know exactly what you want in life and what steps you should take to achieve that goal of yours?
If you answer truly and yes, then you shouldn't be reading this but be better spending time doing just that what is needed to get to that goal of yours.
But nobody is really that steady of mind and relapses happen. Psychological studies shows that it helps to write out your goals in life and for every goal some accompanying reasons why you want to achieve that goal. For example you want to quit smoking, you have to list specific reasons why you want to quit. And every time you feel the urge to smoke....remember that list. The trouble of this is, you'll start great (especially in accombination with a strong new years resolution) but in the end most people will fail! Why is this you say? Is has to do with with repetition and desensitization. The human mind is a lazy thing (or a well oiled machine), because it'll try to find the optimum process/method where it has to do the least amount of work. In this case it'll just remember the top one or two reasons. And writing it out every time takes effort and persistence not everyone is willing to make, so you'll just remember it or say it aloud. At first this will work, because those are the reason that which has the most meaning for you, accompanied with strong feelings. And after a while desensitization kicks in, you'll still have that feeling like the first time you wrote it down but the feeling will gradually drop with every repetition.
And when temptation comes around the corner the next time... you'll succumb to it. Because at that point when you weigh "the pleasure" that you'll get from the temptation against your one or two reasons, the scale will just tip to the temptation side. All this due to the fact that the reasons are losing their value in your mind.

How can you fight this? Have a strong resolve and keep reminding you why you want that particular goal in life.
The Resolve App will try to help you in this process. It can only try, because in the end only you can take those actions necessary.

The first thing you have to do is write down your dream/goal/desire/the thing you want most. Make it short and strong in one sentence! Use positive formulation, instead of "I want to lose weight" use something like "I want to live a healthy life" or "I want to exercise more on a daily basis"

After this write down 10 reasons why you want the above mentioned thing. Avoid repetition and make each reason strong and unique. Use positive formulation and write it down in an active form (you doing something). Each reason should represent an effort your are willing to make / a price you are willing to pay for just that one thing you want.

Now the set-up is done and the hard part starts. Each time when you start the Resolve App, you'll be presented with your goal/dream/resolve and three reasons that you have named. So every time when temptations comes along or that you want a reminder of your goal, you'll get three different reasons each time to strengthen your resolve

Finally remember that only you can decide what will happen. You are in control of what you want, think and can do in every situation. You just have to take control of it!
