Welcome to Randominder, an application that helps kids and adults stay on track and complete tasks on time. Randominder was conceived and designed by Dr. Peg Dawson Ed.D and Dr. Richard Guare Ph.D, child psychologists with over 50 years of experience in homes and schools, working to help children (as well as their parents and teachers) address and overcome organizational and attention deficits. Now, as smartphones have taken on a key role in our lives, Dr's Dawson and Guare have spent much of their time investigating and devising the ways in which these devices might help children and adults overcome issues of time management and task completion; in conjunction with Colin Guare, a freelance writer who also has experience working with children and students, Randominder is their first endeavor towards meeting that goal. Randominder deploys a unique and flexible array of auditory, visual, and vibration-based alerts to help keep kids and adults on task. At the core of Randominder is its ability to sound alerts at random within a given time-frame. Imagine a child sitting down to a piece of classwork, or an adult preparing to do taxes. Using Randominder, each person can set a time in which they wish to complete the task (for example, one hour). But within that hour, Randominder can be programmed to announce an alarm at certain intervals (every 10 seconds, 15 seconds...1 minute etc). The advantage of Randominder is that these alarms are not always exact. Traditional alarms may be ineffective because a person will naturally condition themselves to a regular sounding alarm. But with Randominder, these alarms sound randomly within a range that is based on the users desired "average interval". So a 10 second average might produce an alarm after 13 seconds, but the next may sound in only 8 seconds. In this way, the user is kept off guard, and the alarms are more likely to achieve their desired effect: keeping the user focused on the task at hand. Randominder also has a high degree of customization. Users can input their own text, images, vibration patterns, and even record custom audio for use as reinforcements (imagine a child who heard his teacher's voice telling him to pay attention...or his mother's!). Tasks can be named and saved, so that school professionals or kids themselves can start pre-programmed tasks and thereby assume a greater level of autonomy. Randominder: a modern, cost effective tool, using technology to keep kids (and adults!) on task, by keeping them on their toes.
