Vishal K Dar’s dreamlike, operatic rendition of the Ramayana is a dramatic, contemporary retelling of Valmiki’s version of the epic, via several apocryphal readings.

The 24,000 Sanskrit verses, spread across six books in the source material, are collapsed into 75 immersive scrolls over three interactive graphic books: a visualization for our times of what remains in essence, an ageless, tragic love story.

The Book of Loss references the “Yuddha Kand”, the gravest episode of the original Ramayana. The monkey and bear armies assemble at the ramparts of Lanka, eager for the battle that can only result in utter decimation and bereavement…
