PocketEM is a quick-reference calculator for properties of electromagnetic fields and mixing laws of multiphase dielectric and conducting media. It is designed for easy calculation of properties such as wavelength, phase speed, attenuation distances for monochromatic wave fields where both dielectric polarization and/or Ohmic conduction prevail, including loss effects.

PocketEM also computes effective medium properties for multiphase systems, including layered anisotropy. Mixing laws include Archie’s Law, Hashin-Shtrikman bounds, Maxwell-Wagner-Bruggeman-Hanai theory, among others. PocketEM is designed for quick, “back-of-the-envelope” calculations relevant to students, engineers and scientists in the fields of geophysics, petrophysics, and material and emulsion sciences.
