Application Description
This is an Inertial Measurement Unit for your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. It records the movement sensors: Acceleration, Gryos, GPS, Magnetometer and logs them to a tab-delimited text file. This text file can be then used within any application that supports tab-delimited text files such as MATLAB, Maple & Excel etc. The usable sensors will be dependant on what is available on your device. If you have an iPhone 4 or 4S then you should have everything available to you. iPhone 3GS is lacking a gyro sensor.
This utility can be used to verify other instrumentation or just to get an idea of how things are moving.
Things to note:
• The sampling frequency is dependant on the clock speed of the device you are running it on, on a 3GS sampling frequency = 13Hz (approx.) and on a iPad 2 about 33Hz (Approx.)
• Sampling is not exactly regular each sample, but the timestamp resolution is down to the millisecond, so you should be able to resolution the slightly irregular sampling period.
