Application Description
This application is designed for bush firefighters in NSW. It combines a interactive shared incident map, fire danger calculators and the latest incident information to assist firefighters in their day-to-day operations.
It includes the following fire danger meters:
* McArthur Forest Fire Danger Meter Mk5 (Dark Green)
* CSIRO Modified Grass Fire Danger Meter (Orange)
* Grass Fire Spread Meter (Dark Red)
The application supports the following Map/Grid References:
* UBD Map Reference (Sydney Only)
* UTM Coordinates (GDA94)
* 6 Figure Grid References (NSW only)
* Latitude/Longitude (DD, DM & DMS formats)
The share incident map also displays online data from:
* Roads and Maritime Services (Traffic Accidents, Fires and Floods)
* NSW Rural Fire Service (Current Incidents in NSW)
* ACT Fire (Current Incidents in ACT)
* Bureau of Meteorology (Current Weather Observations)
* Sentinel Hotspots - Geoscience Australia (Infrared Satellite Detected Fires)
This application was developed as a research prototype to investigate the use of smart phone technology in improving the collaboration of information on the fire-ground.
