Pioneer field tests hybrid response to plant population at dozens of locations across North America each year. This extensive testing allows Pioneer to sample a wide array of environments at many yield levels. The wide-ranging data set obtained powers this Planting Rate Estimator.

Information and results contained here are estimates based upon plant population data collected by Pioneer Agronomy Sciences to determine economic seeding rate and plant populations. Such tests are done on a genetic family basis. For data quality purposes at least 6 locations of yield information are required, therefore if a hybrid is not listed then currently there is insufficient data. All products within a family receive the same recommendation unless observations indicate a significant difference. Individual product responses are variable and subject to any growing environments including soil type, weather, insects and diseases. This model may not predict future performance and may not be complete.

Planting environments are broken into 3 groups: A) High or greater than 200 Bu/Acre, B) Medium or between 150 and 200 Bu/Acre and C) Low or less than 150 Bu/A. Graphs and charts are shown indicating how products performed in these environments based on past population studies.

Those planting these products can also consider the tradeoff of seed cost and increased yield by entering a cost of seed per 1,000 kernels and their own estimated market price for the grain. The Estimator then estimates the planting rate that has given the highest estimated net return when these two factors are considered.
