Pauja requires your full concentration to not only earn points, but also, to prevent you from depleting them. You must score goals to gain points, but also, you must defend and protect the game exits from allowing the ball through, but not without substantial risk. Every time the ball bounces off an exit-shield, your total risk-points are increased. If you score a goal, your risk-points gained are added to your total game points. However, if you don't prevent the ball from moving through an exit, your risk-points gained are subtracted from your total game points. So, depending on how high your risk-points get in a single ball play, the inescapable risk (and potential reward) can be quite high, especially with bonus points and multipliers that get larger the more the ball bounces off your exit-shields and the higher your game speed!

The game features user-controlled players that orbit the goal and/or rotate on their own axis, as well as grab and shoot the ball. In addition, exits with user-controlled exit-shields are included along with a goal that has game-directed goal-shields. The self-powered ball moves steadily as it bounces off game objects, unless it's grabbed by a player or exit-shield and shot out from either.

The purpose of the game is to keep the ball in the game, defend your exits, keep your energy from depleting, and gain as many risk-points as you dare to turn into game points when you score a goal, all while moving through 3 levels of difficulty, each with 3 game speeds. As players and exits increase in quantity through the levels, you'll need all the concentration you can muster to keep in the game.
