Ridesharing saves money by distributing transportation expenses such as petrol, toll and parking among those sharing a rides.
However, many who are hesitant about sharing a ride with a stranger. How can you tell who you will be sharing a ride with? Orbiting was developed with this in mind. It turns things around by mapping your relationships on your social network to tell you who you will be sharing a ride with.
- Integrates with Facebook to tell you if someone is a friend, a friend of a friend or a stranger based on your connections in Facebook.
- Even if you have no mapped relationships, quickly browse through a Facebook profile to get an idea of who a person is.
- A commonality score correlates your list of friends and interests against others to come up with a score between 0 to 100. The higher the score, the more you have in common.
- Personally identifiable information is exchanged after agreeing to share rides. This includes your legal name, ID and car number. This acts as a secondary form of identification especially if you share a ride with a stranger.
- A community based rating system requires everyone to rate one another at the end of each shared ride to maintain a trusted community.
- Maintains your anonymity through the use of an integrated messaging system without revealing your phone number. It does not continuously track your movement either; it only uses your location when the app is running.
