The Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow is one of the oldest churches in New York State. Surrounded by a three-acre burying ground, this historic building was built in 1685 by Frederick Philipse, the lord of Philipsburg Manor. “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” brought worldwide fame to the church’s doorstep after Washington Irving, ghost storyteller extraordinaire, wrote the legend in 1819.
