NYC History Signs is an App to help New Yorkers and tourists enjoy NYC parks, playgrounds, statues and monuments. History Sign's historic content covers the Manhattan area between the points where the Dutch landed at Battery Park and the Indian caves in Inwood, where the native Americans lived in the winter months.

Using GPS the App help users locate parks, playgrounds and other historic markers and monuments in New York City. The text from about 500 NYC Department of Parks and Recreation signs that mark all these historic and fun locations are recreated in this App. The sign text was supplied by New York City for the second Big Apps Contest, which has publicized this project as well. A unique original 129 question multiple choice quiz accompanies the app on the connected website www.historysign.com.

This App allows users to enjoy and learn about every big and small park and playground in Manhattan. The History Sign App also leads people to the physical locations of monuments and statues that help document and tell the story of the people and places in America's most famous city.

Discover famous mayors, statesmen and residents that made NYC world renowned. Journey through time with this wayback App and history game with information like this:
Learn that William Seward was the first New Yorker to be honored with a monument.
• Three things in Central Park that predate the creation of the park itself are the Arsenal, the Blockhouse and the Obelisk.
• Manhattan's oldest surviving house is Morris-Jumel Mansion.
• The first Labor Day celebration was held in Union Square Park.
• The art cube at Astor and Lafayette is called The Alamo.
• The Bleecker playground was named after one of the founders of the New Historical Society.
• NYC's oldest park (once council grounds for Native Americans) is Bowling Green.

Kids NYC has been making NYC history websites for almost five years (see www.kidsnyc.com) and this will be the first venture into our series of NYC history apps.
